CCHS Grad Requirements

Minimum requirements for graduation from Cañon City High School in the School District Fremont RE-1 include the following:

1. Eight (8) semesters of attendance beyond the eighth grade is required, unless the student qualifies for early graduation at the conclusion of the seventh semester. Students requesting early graduation must make formal application to the principal by December 1. Students who complete their work at mid-year and are eligible to graduate shall receive their diploma at the end of the school year and may return to take part in the graduation exercises. A student who completes graduation requirements at the end of the seventh semester will receive a transcript and letter signifying completion of all graduation requirements. Active Student status upon early graduation is forfeited.

2. All students who have successfully completed graduation requirements are eligible to receive an official Cañon City High School diploma and participate in graduation exercises. Students who meet graduation requirements after the designated graduation will receive their diplomas dated the year of the next regular graduation class and will have the option to participate in the next graduation exercise.

The principal, with approval of the superintendent, may waive a given requirement if it is determined to be in the best educational interest of the student.

A student who makes normal progress towards graduation will be in regular attendance and abide by the rules and regulations of Cañon City High School. Students who refuse to abide by the reasonable rules and regulations of the school and of the district, or who are not regular in attendance, may not be permitted to attend. A student who fails to meet graduation requirements, at the end of eight semesters of attendance, will be permitted to continue in school and carry a course load sufficient to permit him/her to meet graduation requirements or until reaching the age of twenty-one.
